Boston Immersive Music Festival Presents Listen To This
The Outerspace Visual Communicator(OVC) returns to Boston with original music from Listen To This on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 24th-26th at 7:30 and 9:00pm.
Boston Immersive Music Festival
The seven-weekend long Boston Immersive Music Festival brings together the best of experimental, jazz, classical, and traditional music that Boston has to offer with the immersive visuals of the OVC-3D.
Listen To This
Listen to This is an eight piece band devoted to exploring the music Miles Davis and his collaborators made from 1969-75. Formed by drummer Jerome Deupree (Morphine), multi-instrumentalist Russ Gershon (Either/Orchestra) and keyboardist Dave Bryant (Ornette Coleman) in 2022, the group strives not for reord copies but for expanding the powerful grooves and enigmatic colors and forms that fill In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew up to Get Up With It and Agharta.
The leaders are joined by trumpeter Bryan Murphy (Shills), bass clarinetist Todd Brunel, guitarist J. Johnson (Parlour Bells), bassist Rick McLaughlin (Either/Orchestra) and percussionist Rick Barry (Bim Skala Bim). Most of the members found their way into jazz and improvised music as teenagers in the 70's through Miles and his former sidemen's bands. Recalling these sounds with a lifetime of experience has been taking audiences on a thrilling ride in every performance.
Gershon's connection with Bill Sebastian – as a fan – goes all the way back to attending seven of the legendary concerts that Sebastian and his Outer Space Visual Communicator did with Sun Ra and Arkestra in Boston in 1979 and 1981. He and all of the LTT members are looking forward to the three night residency – and to the musical freedom this multi-media environment will open up.
The OVC-3D
The OVC returns to Boston! Bill Sebastian created the original OVC in the 1970s and performed on stage with Sun Ra at theaters in Boston and New York. The videos they made in the 1980s were recently featured in a retrospective at the Roulette Theater in Brooklyn and in Inside the Light World released by Strut Records. The OVC allowed an artist to create visual projections with the same total spontaneous control that a musician has over sound. Sebastian's OVC-3D extends that concept to immersive 3D worlds that can be entered using VR headsets. Bill will be performing live on the OVC-3D at every festival event, accompanying the musicians as they explore a wide range of musical styles. The audience will be able to view the art both through projections of the OVC and VR headsets. Learn more at visualmusicsystems.com.
