About the Orchestra: Founded in 1924, the Civic is the city’s second oldest orchestra and one of the area’s most respected musical organizations. The orchestra takes great pride in its focus on showcasing the talents of exceptionally gifted young musicians, many of whom have gone on to distinguished professional careers. An endowment by the late James Powers offers local music students the opportunity to perform with the orchestra. The other valuable members of the orchestra are established professionals and skilled amateurs who come from all walks of life.
