If there’s one perfect way to spend an afternoon in Boston’s Chinatown, it’s on a dumpling crawl. With all eight of these spots within a 10-minute walk of each other, you can bounce from place to place and sample some of the city’s best and most affordable dumplings, from crispy, pan-fried classics to delicate soup-filled bites. This self-guided crawl highlights some of the neighborhood’s most satisfying staples, all for under $13!

1. Potluck Cafe (pictured)
Start strong at Potluck Cafe, a casual, locally loved spot known for homestyle Northern Chinese comfort food. For $10, you’ll get eight pan-fried pork dumplings with perfectly crisped bottoms and juicy, flavorful fillings. These were our personal favorites of the crawl, but you'll have to see for yourself!
Just a short walk away, in a small food hall, Dumpling King keeps things classic and budget-friendly, offering eight dumplings (pork, chicken, or veggie) for only $8. Their dumplings strike that ideal balance: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and served piping hot.
3. Ding Ho
For a quick, no-frills bite, Ding Ho is a must. At one of the cheapest but most flavorful on the crawl, their $1 steamed pork dumplings, served with a lightly sweet soy-vinegar sauce, are the definition of old-school Chinatown comfort food, simple, satisfying, and perfect for grabbing a couple on the go.
4. Fuchun Ju
Next, shift into soup dumpling territory. Fuchun Ju specializes in handmade Shanghai-style dishes, and their six soup dumplings ($11) are packed with rich broth and delicate flavor. These dumplings are rich with broth and best enjoyed fresh out of the steamer.
If you want to compare styles, Nan Xiang Express, an offshoot of the famous NYC soup dumpling destination now in Boston, offers a similar fix. Their six soup dumplings ($10–$11, depending on filling) are known for their thin skins and deeply savory broth.
Keep the crawl going with Dumpling Cafe, a longtime Chinatown favorite serving authentic Taiwanese and Sichuan comfort dishes. Their dumplings ($12.95) come in generous portions, both steamed and fried, with multiple filling options.
7. Hei La Moon
Then, swing by Hei La Moon, a Chinatown institution best known for its dim sum. For $6.25, you can try dumplings like cilantro chicken and shrimp or chive shrimp and chicken. These are lighter, shareable bites that are perfect mid-crawl. We recommend ordering the green jasmine hot tea as well!
Wrap things up at Shabu-Zen, a cozy hot pot spot that also offers dumplings. Five dumplings for $7 make for a comforting final stop, and a great excuse to sit down and recharge after eating your way through the neighborhood.
Altogether, this Chinatown dumpling crawl is a choose-your-own-adventure feast that is affordable, delicious, and endlessly customizable. Bring a friend or a group of friends, split everything, and discover your personal favorite along the way.
