The Bosphorus to Boston Concert Series continues with Makams with the Harp, an evening exploring a musical dialogue between Turkish makam traditions and the Western harp.
Rooted in centuries-old modal practice, makam music blends composition and improvisation, shaping expressive melodic pathways and emotional depth. In this concert, classical and folk repertoire from Turkey comes together with the harp’s resonant sound, alongside traditional instruments such as oud, kanun, violin, and percussion.

• Volkan Efe — oud, kanun, ney, yayli tanbur, voice
• Shelley Otis — harp, voice
• Fabio Pirozzolo — percussions
• Theresa Thompson — violin
The evening will include short spoken introductions, and no prior knowledge is required. The concert is designed to be welcoming, intimate, and accessible to all audiences.
