Founded in 1973, the award-winning Blacksmith House Poetry Series brings established and emerging writers of poetry and fiction to Harvard Square. In person readings will take place at 56 Brattle on Mondays at 8pm. Admission is $5, tickets are available at the door.


Askold Melnyczuk

Askold Melnyczuk has published four novels, a book of stories, and a novella about the life of Rimbaud. He’s the recipient of a Lila Wallace Award in Fiction, the George Garret Award from AWP, and awards from the Massachusetts Cultural Council in fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Founding editor of Agni, for which he received the PEN-Magid Award for Editing, and Arrowsmith Press, he has taught at Boston University, Harvard, Bennington College and currently teaches at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.


Nidia Hernández

Nidia Hernández was born in Venezuela and has been living in the US since 2018. She is a poet, translator of Portuguese poetry, editor, broadcaster, and radio producer. Her editorial project lamajadesnuda.com won the 2011 world Summit Awards. Hernández is the winner of the 2021 Sundara Ramaswamy Prize for her editorial work on The Land of Mild Light by Rafael Cadenas. In 2022, she published a new anthology, The Invisible Borders of Time: Five Female Latin American Poets, for which she which won the 2023 Mass Poetry Community Award.
