The decentralized autonomous organization known as PizzaDAO — a global community of artists, creators, and pizza lovers — is set to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day on May 22, 2022 by throwing the world’s largest public pizza party ever in locations around the world, including in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Bitcoin Pizza Day celebrates the first commercial cryptocurrency transaction on May 22, 2010 when Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 Bitcoin for two pizzas.
The Cambridge event will be offering pizza from local Harvard Square favorites Pinocchio's, Source, Oggi Gourmet, and Otto. In addition to free pizza, the Cambridge event will also feature entertainment from local acts like Chris Ballerini, KnotArt, and LG Sai.
Motivated by the belief that “pizza shud b free,” the PizzaDAO created Rare Pizzas, a non-fungible token (NFT) project that raised more than $1 million in sales within just the first three months.
Last year’s global pizza party featured the free distribution of over $300,000 in pizza from more than 300 pizzerias in more than 60 countries, supporting local businesses and social impact organizations worldwide.
“PizzaDAO is using proceeds from Rare Pizzas NFTs to buy pizza for people all over the world,” said PizzaDAO member “Snax” of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “We don’t have a pizza scarcity problem. We have a pizza distribution problem.”
PizzaDAO appreciates the care and commitment of our pizzeria staff and has also dedicated funds to tip at least 25% on the thousands of dollars in pizza they’ll be purchasing from local pizzerias.
