Bim Skala Bim:
Bim Skala Bim formed in Boston, MA as a Ska Rock band that was influenced by the bands in England’s 2 Tone movement, as well as the music of the Clash, UB40 and Bob Marley. Bim’s infectious Boston Blue Beat sound led them to be one of the premier bands kick-starting the Third Wave of Ska in the 1980s. Other bands quickly followed their example resulting in a lively scene in Boston and much of the United States.
Plate O' Shrimp:
Plate O' Shrimp’s unique mash of ska, reggae, funk, rock, and afro-pop energized audiences with infectious beats, memorable hooks, and sheer fun. Based near Boston from 1984-1989, Plate O’ Shrimp played often to sold-out venues from New York to Maine. While rare in the 1980’s, POS’ polyglot sound presaged some of the cross-genre trends of the next two decades.
Carla from Johnny D's says…..
Back in the early - mid 80's, I knew nothing about booking bands or running a music club. 'More balls than brains' my mom would say. Well, along the way I knew that I had to get these SKA shows in. And my favorites back in those days were always Plate O'Shrimp, Bim, Shy Five (see Feb 5), Third Estate, and The Happy Campers.
Loved the music, the band members, the fans, the energy…..the Rolling Rock.
I am so excited that this night is happening. And if Andy Rein from POS and his son Max didn't stop in on a college tour, or Dan Vitale from Bim didn't push a two show idea, and Pressure Cooker wasn't so excited to be part of it, it would not have. POS members traveling from all over the Globe too to do this one last time at Johnny D's.
Well….we think it is TWO shows of Fun.
So, these are SEPARATE shows...meaning the earlier show is POS and Bim. And the later show is Pressure Cooker and Bim. Two separate admission charges.
The house will be turned. Best money you will spend in, well, I think 30 years…
