Beyond the Cushion: Meditations for the Moment -- with Wilhelm Engelbrecht
Saturday, May 11th (1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) -- Brookline
This workshop is for meditators of any level who are looking to incorporate the practice into their schedule in such a way that meditation does not become yet another item on their never-ending to-do list. The workshop will focus on our ideas of what proper meditation "should" be and where these ideas come from.
We will explore different meditation poses and corresponding techniques, which can make meditation accessible in the course of our day-to-day obligations. Attendees will be guided through sitting, walking, standing, and reclined meditation poses. We will discuss and journal about the experience of each variation. The aim is to practice meditating instinctively, and play with bringing creativity into the classic meditation techniques. In doing this, meditation can become a way to enhance the in-the-moment experiences of life, instead of limiting it to a practice that pushes aside thoughts and "stills the mind."
Wilhelm Engelbrecht has been teaching meditation in Boston for many years and is excited to show how the teachings of monastics are applicable in a modern city. He is a student of Lorin Roche, PhD, and Camille Maurine, leaders of the Radiance Sutras Meditation Teacher Training.
Cost: $40 / $32 until May 4th
