Our need for housing extends beyond any one community’s backyard so why do we create it as if it doesn’t? Housing policy in Boston and cities around the United States is regional in nature, but the regulatory systems that influence land use and development are local or hyper-local.
Join some of the most innovative local and state officials from around Eastern Massachusetts:
* Mayor of Somerville, Joseph Curtatone
* Mayor of Salem, Kim Driscoll
* Mayor of Cambridge, Marc McGovern
* Sheila Dillon, Chief of Housing & Director of Neighborhood Development for Boston
* Janelle Chan, Undersecretary, Department of Housing & Community Development
* And moderator, Dana LeWinter, Municipal Engagement Director at the Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA)
As they examine of the challenges and opportunities for effective regional collaboration. They will address:
* the challenges to building more housing in their own communities
* how they are working on expanding collaboration across municipal borders or agencies to make better regional land use decisions
* how pro-housing advocates can play a role in making sure their own communities are good regional partners in addressing the housing affordability crisis.
This event is the last session of the YIMBYtown 2018 conference and is open to both conference attendees and is free to the general public.
