“Between Silence and Song” spotlights the powerful continuum of women’s voices in music—from those once muted to the bold creators shaping today’s sound. This Women’s History Month program for flute and guitar showcases the depth, imagination, and artistic force of Chaminade, Clearfield, Lynds, Fitzhugh, von Paradis, Anido, Higdon and Hoover, inviting audiences into a vibrant celebration of women’s artistry across generations.

Flutist Bonnie Cochran and guitarist Fred Springer bring a vibrant blend of classical artistry and contemporary expression to the stage, drawing on rich and varied careers as performers, educators, and creative collaborators. Cochran’s playing reflects a life immersed in performance and composition—heard on PBS’s American Experience: Edison, seen on WCVB’s Chronicle for her community‑centered work, and featured in chamber and solo appearances at the Ogunquit Chamber Music Festival, MIT, Harvard University, and multiple National Flute Association Conventions. Her compositions have been performed at venues including Carnegie Hall and the National Flute Convention. Springer’s warm, agile guitar work is shaped by performances across three continents, top prizes in international competitions, and an active artistic life in Boston as Program Coordinator for the Boston Kithara Project, a faculty member at EKS Music School, and the creator of his recently released Moontides EP of solo guitar music. Together, they craft programs that highlight the beauty and versatility of the flute–guitar duo, engaging audiences with their musicality, connection, and dynamic ensemble sound.
