Beethoven's Tango, presented by MIT Tango Club, brings together world-renowned tango artistic director Fernanda Ghi and pianist-composer Alfredo Minetti in an original dance-theater production inspired by Beethoven's life and creative spirit. Rather than reproducing his compositions, the piece uses newly created tango music and movement to explore three universal creative forces: the Muse, the Angel, and the Duende. Dancer Silvio Grand and Grammy-nominated bandoneon player Richard Scofano complete the cast for this performance.
Performances run September 25-27, 2026 at Kresge Little Theater (W16-035), 48 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, with a pre-show talk by Minetti on opening night. A companion event, "Unleashing the Duende," offers a 2-hour talk and embodied movement workshop with Ghi and Minetti on September 23 at La Sala Ballroom (W20-202), exploring Lorca's concept of duende through discussion and improvisation, no dance experience required.
This project is supported by the Council For the Arts at MIT (CAMIT).
