The Norman B. Leventhal Map Center has recently launched a new website and digital collections site, which includes several new features. The redesigned search and browse features lets users refine their searches with filters, and also gives users the opportunity to search spatially using a digital map to zoom to an area for which they are interested. Maps can now be georeferenced and overlaid on a contemporary basemap to compare change over time, or to export to more advanced geographic software. Teachers and other users can create online presentations called Map Sets which use maps and digital content to form slide shows with customized annotations or text. The sites have been made mobile friendly so that they can be easily used on tables and smartphones.
This class will be a hands-on exploration of the new features of the Leventhal Map Center website. We will examine a few georeferenced maps and Map Sets. Then you will have the opportunity to georeference a map and create a Map Set yourself.
