Celebrate Alena Dillon’s debut novel, Mercy House, in conversation with Susanna Baird, at Porter Square Books in Cambridge on February 11 at 7pm.
Mercy House is about Sister Evelyn, an irreverent 69-year-old nun who is investigated by the Vatican for breaking church doctrine in how she runs her women's shelter in Brooklyn. Evelyn will go to great lengths to defend all that she loves. She confronts a gang member, defies the church, challenges her own beliefs, and faces her past.
Amy Schumer calls it "the book we've all been waiting for" and Publishers Weekly calls it a "stirring and fiery debut."
Susanna Baird serves as contributing editor for Spine Magazine and as Authors Co-chair of the Salem Literary Festival.
