Sports & Active Life
The O2 style of vinyasa is inspired by the Astanga system, but although you might have attended many O2 classes, you might still be wondering, “What’s Astanga?” In the first of a two-part Astanga series, we will start with an overview of the Astanga system (breath, locks, gaze) and discuss important foundations including poses and counterposes. Then, we will break down the postures in Primary Series through Navasana (boat pose), including modifications and transitions. If you’ve felt nervous about trying Astanga, or have attended a couple classes but have questions about some of the postures, this class is for you! No prior yoga experience necessary, just bring a mat, water bottle, and optional hand towel.
Attendees will be given a guest pass to attend one future Astanga class at O2 Yoga (Tuesdays @ 7:30pm in Somerville; Wednesdays @ 7pm and Fridays @ 7am, both in Cambridge).
When: Saturday, October 27th, 2:30pm-4:30pm
Where: O2 Yoga Somerville (288 Highland Avenue)
Cost: $40-single enrollment; $70-enrollment in Part 1 & 2 (Part 2 is on December 1st)
Sarah Hoffman and Paulina Haduong attended the O2 200 Hour Teacher Training in 2015 under Mimi Loureiro, Elliott McEldowney, and the O2 senior teachers, where they became yoga best friends. Since then, they’ve taught at O2, as well as other studios/companies in the Boston area, while pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work (Sarah) and a Ph.D. in Education (Paulina). In addition, they have both attended the Astanga Primary Series teacher training with David Swensen and Shelley Washington, and they continue to deepen their Astanga practice with Kate O’Donnell and Rich Ray at Down Under Yoga.
24 hours notice is required for any reservation cancellations. Each participant should enroll separately (unless otherwise noted). Please email [email protected] with questions.
