Join artists Amanda Ugorji and Sophie Weston Chien (Just Practice) for an intimate conversation about their collaborative project, Soft City, which was on exhibition in the MIT Museum. This textile series maps the urban fabric of Black neighborhoods in Boston, highlighting the intersection of environmental and racial justice. Through vibrant tapestries, the artists explore how Black communities in historically redlined areas experience increased flood risk and extreme heat. Their innovative approach invites viewers to reconsider urban planning and community resilience in ways that are tactile, inclusive, and deeply connected to the lived experiences of these neighborhoods. Attendees will be able to be up close and personal with the textiles, touching, feeling, and seeing the environmental injustice that has prevailed.
