John Ramsay, Chairman of Berklee's percussion department, leads an all-star contingent in a tribute concert that celebrates the music and legacy of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers at Highland Jazz's series concert on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Newton South High School at 2 pm. Ramsay was the second drummer in the Jazz Messengers big band and later served as road manager in the group's world tour. His book, "Art Blakey's Jazz Messages" showcases Blakey's drumming style and shares insights into the group's stories and leader's reflections. Ramsay's quintet includes Jeff Stout, trumpet, Mike Zoldos, tenor saxophone, Bruce Sklar,piano, Gregory Ryan, bass, and Ramsay, drums.
