Between 1978-2000, Hsieh used long durations of time as the context for his performance work, making his art and life exist in simultaneity. His One Year Performance 1978-1979 (also known as Cage Piece) was shown at MoMA in 2009. Other recent exhibitions of his include those at the Guggenheim Museum, the Liverpool Biennial, and the Gwangju Biennial. Hsieh represented Taiwan at the 2017 Venice Biennial.
