Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the world’s most popular dance companies, returns to Boston April 27-30, 2017 at the Boch Center Wang Theatre, presented by Celebrity Series of Boston. Led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, the company will present a potent mix of Boston premieres (including new work by MacArthur “Genius” Fellow award-winner Kyle Abraham, and veteran company member Hope Boykin), as well as repertory favorites and classics, including Ailey’s masterpiece, Revelations. This engagement marks the 46th presentation of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater by the Celebrity Series of Boston.
Program highlights include Boykin’s r-Evolution, Dream., Abraham’s Untitled America, Mauro Bigonzetti’s Deep; Company premieres of Battle’s Ella and Johan Inger’s Walking Mad; a new production of Billy Wilson’s The Winter in Lisbon; and the return of Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain Pas de Deux.
