Alternative Facts: The Lies of Executive Order 9066 presents the true and complete story of the controversial and infamous actions towards Japanese Americans by the United States during World War II. Revealing the truth behind governmental cover-ups, the documentary uses recordings, official documents, experts, and anecdotal testimonies to uncover the brutal truths about the Japanese American internment camps set up in Northern California and the attempts the government made to hide reality from the public. Alternative Facts also draws parallels between these incarceration cases and recent oppressive acts towards immigrants by the federal government, creating a new sense of urgency for a push of action to not repeat this dark moment in history.
The Boston Asian American Film Festival will be screening Alternative Facts: The Lies of Executive Order 9066 at the Bright Family Screening Room at Emerson’s Paramount Center and is co-presented by the New England Japanese American Citizens League.
There will also be a panel of speakers for a Q&A with audience members after the screening to discuss the film. Panelists include the Alternatives Facts director and editor, Jon Osaki, Deputy Director Fatema Ahmed of the Muslim Justice League, and Organizing Director Kevin Lam of the Asian American Resource Workshop and it will be moderated by Paul Watanabe, the director of the Institute for Asian American Studies at UMass Boston.
