11am - 1pm: GIRLS ONLY SKATEBOARDING
POP Allston will be closed to everyone but girls from 11am - 1pm! Girls aged 3 to 300 are welcome. Free lessons will be provided by:
Momo Meatballs
Jen Millis
Humar from Orchard Skateshop
Jesse Snotts French
Colin Fiske
Peter Micanovic
We will have a limited number of skateboards and helmets available for you to borrow. Please bring a board to ride (or to lend to another!) if you can so more people can take part! A signed waiver (and If you are under 18, a helmet and attending legal guardian) is required to skate. You can download the waiver here: https://app.waiverforever.com/pending/LloD8eeJ5Z1442757331. An introduction to zine making will also be provided! We are making a zine about this event. All participating girl skaters will receive an opportunity to be part of the zine and will be sent a free copy once completed.
1pm: OPEN TO ALL
This is the last day POP Allston will be open. The park will be torn down the following day. Sadness.
1:30pm - 3pm: BENEFIT SHOW
Gig at the skatepark. Every band on the bill has at least one girl who skates (be still my heart). Watch us shred while we raise money for Papercut Zine Library and ERA* for putting on the event!
Rictus Grin
Heartbreaker
St. Ripper
During the show, the two story skatepark will remain open to the public free of charge. We will be asking for $5-$10 donations during the show. (*ERA will keep $25 the cost of the entertainment licence city hall required to hold this benefit show, the cost of making flyers, and gas money for any bands who need it. All other $ will go to Papercut!)
If you don't have a few bucks to throw down, come by and have fun anyway because money sucks and lack there of does not stop you from attending this event
SPACE IS LIMITED: GIRLS, show up early!
=========================================
Volunteers: Would you like to help with the event? ERA could use some helping hands:
- Tabler: help selling water at the papercut table
- Tabler: help with registration and sign up @11am
- Set up and break down: lend us your muscels please
- Volunteer skate instructors
- MC for the event (loud ladies, get at me)
- Promotions: help us flyer, contact your school and local YMCA, help us get the word out!
- Equipment: lend us boards and helmets for a few hours?! It's for a good cause (anti-competitive, anti-cool, anti-fame skateboarding) and that beaterboard of yours was born to be ridden anyaways, it is not happy resting against a wall in your room recalling the good ol days when it was just you and the concrete. Give it life again and perhaps someone else a chance to skate for the first time ever! Remember what that felt like? :)
