Ikiré Jones is a design house based in Philadelphia that uses design as a vehicle to tell stories that illuminate the lives of marginalized people. With designs like the Renaissance-inspired “Vines II” suit, shirt, and scarf featured in “Gender Bending Fashion,” Ikiré Jones explores the idea that elegance is not exclusive to any particular culture, hue, or country. Founder Walé Oyéjidé is a Nigerian American designer, writer, musician, and lawyer who addresses issues related to migration and displacement through the lens of design. Join us as Oyéjidé discusses his project “After Migration,” an ongoing attempt to depict the complicated refugee crisis from a different angle.
Moderated by Heather White, CEO, Trillfit.
Following the lecture, join us for a screening of Marvel’s smash hit Black Panther. Ikiré Jones garments are n the film and the exhibition, “Gender Bending Fashion,” on view in the Linde Family Wing.
