FEATURED MUSICAL ACTS for FRI AUG 3

We're sure to have a packed crowd so get there EARLY for the best seats on the lawn.

New Dakotas (7pm)
Based in Boston, New Dakotas play folk, pop, rock and psychedelic music. You could call their music indie-folk-pop, but more than any particular style, they try to make music that makes them happy and gets them excited every time they play it. They hope that you'll sing along, tap your toes, and feel feelings when you hear their songs.

“This group could easily have been a major act in the late '60s / early '70s, but I am glad they are here today.”
–IndiePulse

“An immensely talented and exciting new act...to keep a watchful eye on in the future…had me spellbound and instantly hooked.” –Music Box Pete

Somerville Symphony Orkestar (9pm)
Blossoming from the Slavic heart of Greater Boston, the Somerville Symphony Orkestar is an all-original Eastern European Punk Funk band. Formed in 2009, the SSO has been constantly gaining notice from many of the music scenes in and around New England. With the success of their first album, the SSO has opened for such bands as the Rebirth Brass Band, the Stepkids, and Dudu Tassa & the Kuwaitis. They’ve also made their mark as one of the organizers of the yearly Balkan Soul Fest in Somerville, MA and have also performed at many of New England’s other festivals including Jerry Jam, Boston’s First Night, and the Somerville Artbeat Festival.

Raised by a pack of gypsy badgers, band leader Joel Edinberg wrote the first SSO song after waking up in the middle of a random Tuesday night. Checking the next morning to see if the song was any good, he realized it was his duty to further form the band. After meeting guitarist and space cowboy Travis Pullman along with his buddy Greg Toro, the new team traveled the world to find the best musicians. Searching the mountains of Nepal, the rivers of the Amazon, and hitching a ride on Curiosity, the three eventually found the final musicians who would complete the amazing circus that is the SSO. Finally reaching out to Belarus and Syracuse, Matt Ellis and Pete Fanelli joined in after some serious musical persuasion. With their powers combined, the SSO beats Balkan, Klezmer, and traditional Russian music into a funk-punky pulp. Complex six-piece arrangements reign in the chaos only to explode into equal parts mosh-pit and horah.
