FEATURED MUSICAL ACTS for FRI SEPT 14
We're sure to have a packed crowd so get there EARLY for the best seats on the lawn.
Gamelankemana aims to take Balinese gamelan to new places -- both physically and musically. The ensemble has performed in churches and libraries, historic sites and beer gardens, alongside middle-school students and master puppeteers. These diverse projects are all rooted in a style Balinese music called gender wayang, which is played by a quartet of bronze metallophones and used to accompany shadow-puppet plays. Gamelankemana is directed by Ian Coss and features Matt Elkins.
Photocomfort is the platform for Boston-based artist Justine Bowe’s careful, expansive pop. After a slew of singles and support slots wth the likes of Beirut, Glass Animals, Whitney and St. Lucia, Bowe released her most recent EP, "Understudy", recorded in a cabin on Lake Winnipesaukee with help from members of Philadelphia psych-pop outfit Carroll. The record positions Bowe as an exacting songwriter, producer and performer, and borrows as much from 90’s radio heroes like Alanis Morissette and Dido as from Radiohead and Solange Knowles. Huge vocal hooks soar over nimble arrangements, presenting the self-doubt and isolation born from the pursuit of “the dream” of being an artist as harrowing, irresistible and irresistibly catchy.
One of our favorite musical finds this summer – these folks had a great show back in June and we invited them back for more!
Ry McDonald has teamed up with vocalist Maggie Quealy to create Copilot, an Americana Pop duo based in Norfolk, Massachusetts. As Copilot, Ry McDonald and Maggie Quealy explore their passion for unique, Americana music and exhibit it through their popular covers and original songs in a way that many listeners haven't quite heard before.
