Please WGBH and MGH for a special advance screening of 'Addiction'—a new NOVA documentary that takes an unflinching look at the deadliest drug epidemic in U.S. history. In 2017 alone, approximately 70,000 Americans died from drug overdoses, driven by a dramatic rise in the abuse of opioids such as OxyContin, heroin, and fentanyl. It’s a slow-motion disaster, destroying communities with no end in sight.

As our nation looks for answers, join doctors, psychologists, and neuroscientists as they investigate how addiction alters the brain, and why it is so hard to control. They are narrowing in on how we should address our drug problem, from the development of evidence-based treatments and new medications, to the rethinking of public policies. With vivid case studies and insights into the latest scientific breakthroughs, NOVA unravels the complex and tragic puzzle of how addiction works, and how it can be beaten.

An in-depth panel discussion will follow the film, featuring:

-- Julia Cort, NOVA Deputy Executive Producer

-- Sarah Holt, 'Addiction' Producer, Director, and Writer

-- Dr. Laura Kehoe, MD, MPH, FASAM, Medical Director of the MGH Substance Use Disorder Bridge Clinic

-- Joy Rosen, Vice President for Behavioral Health, MGH

There will be time for audience questions, followed by refreshments in the WGBH atrium. The event is free, but seating is limited. Be sure to reserve your seats today on our Eventbrite page.
