Movement or sitting still – both are active. Both are rituals for corralling the mind. The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali begins by declaring that Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind and, yet, finding the calming qualities of stillness can be elusive in asana. Maintaining the quietness born of sitting still, whether in asana or going about the day, is not easy either.
This practice will be an exploration of breathing, moving, not moving; all practiced slowly and deliberately with a focus and moving toward a still and clear mind on and off the mat.
