Learn the basics of 3D scanning and its underlying technology!
Class Description
This 1-day class covers the basics of 3D scanning and the underlying technology. Students will have the opportunity to scan each other, a friend, or objects they bring in. We’ll go over scanning limitations and applications for scanned models.
After a short break, we’ll import our scans into Blender, a free and wonderful 3D computer graphics platform. We’ll learn about meshes and many Blender features, and edit our models to make them suitable for 3D printing. This class is intended for everyone - from folks with no scanning, or modeling experience, to people with experience in either of these disciplines.
Learning Objectives
Instructor - Eli West @eliwest_metalworking
Eli is a visual artist and metalsmith. He enjoys 3D scanning, casting in bronze, working with steel, and exploring patinas and textures on metal. He has a deep interest in geography and biology and tries to highlight concepts from both disciplines in his art.
Target Audience
Students interested in model editing and 3d design and/or curious about Artisan Asylum's Photography and Design Shop. Students must be 18 years or older.
