Who said you can’t play with paint and squish some clay? Even if we are adults, we can still let our creativity run wild. Meet new friends while you find your next hobby with these 21 classes to help you get creative! Learn fun ways to express yourself while being in community with others. Here’s a list of some fun events and places to rely on anytime of the year for all things craft and inspiration.

1) Mosaic Mirror Making

When: Sunday Feb. 25, 1:00PM

Where: Waltham

Info: Create intricate mandala-like effects or showcase the beauty of recycled jewelry and glass with simple patterns as you craft your own one-of-a-kind mirror to brighten up your home.


2) Build-a-Boob Pottery

When: Tuesday Feb. 27, 6:30PM

Where: Cambridge

Info: Make your own boob pot in this body-positive and supportive environment. You can choose to use air-dry clay or glaze it for a shinier finish. Capturing all nooks, folds, and hairs is encouraged! Look out for more classes from Pottery with a Purpose.


3) Inspirational Art & Meditation Watercolor

When: Fridays, 5:00PM or 6:00PM 

Where: Beacon Hill

Info: Let your imagination run wild and express your emotions with a no-boundary watercolor guided meditation and art class as the Hidden Art Gallery. It’s the perfect opportunity to get more in touch with yourself as an act of self-care and discovery.


4) Design a Ceramic Tumbler

When: Friday Mar. 1, 5:00PM

Where: Newton

Info: Carve out your own designs into a tumbler that you get to keep, so you can remember the experience! Bring your own pattern or the artist will help you create your own to showcase the difference between shiny black or blue glaze against white clay. 


5) Build Your Own Candle Garden

When: Saturday Mar. 2, 1:00PM

Where: Roxbury

Info: Create your own little cacti and flower garden in this candle-making workshop.


6) Knit A Hat

When: Wednesday Mar. 6, 6:00PM

Where: South End

Info: Time to ramp up your skills with some yarn and needles at the Boston Fiber Company. You’ll be making your own beanie in this 2-hour workshop where a pattern is provided! If you can’t make this one, there’s another on Mar. 30.


7) Pressed Flower Jewelry (pictured)

When: Sunday Mar. 10, 11:30AM

Where: Woburn

Info: Learn how to preserve your own flowers with resin. Bring your own flowers to make a necklace for yourself or as a gift for someone special. 


8) The Art of Joy: Needle Felting Class

When: Sunday Mar. 24, 1:45PM

Where: Dorchester

Info: Love is still in the air in March. Cozy up and learn how to needle felt your very own conversation candy heart and make a sculpture. There will be bingo, chances to win prizes, and lots of poking fun!

1) Sip ‘N Sniff

Where: Back Bay

Info: Sniffs of Adventure is one of my favorite queer businesses in the city. Their candle scents are based on memories shared between owners, Adam and Chris. You can learn how to make your own candles with friends during their 2-hour workshops.


2) Paint After Dark Experience

Where: Hyde Park

Info: This event is hosted multiple times per week at Canvas Studio, a black, female-owned business. Founded by Daphne, an early childhood mental health specialist, Canvas Studio brings creative and collaborative experiences like this one, which includes black light paint, karaoke, and stenciled canvases for easy, no-stress fun.


3) Pottery Painting

Where: Brookline

Info: Take a seat and pick your paints at the Brookline Clayroom. Choose from bowls, plates, vases, and figurines and decorate to your heart’s content. It’s the perfect pastime with friends!


4) Rug Tufting

Where: Allston

Info: Rolls of colorful yarn await you and your friends! Tutuland will guide you on how to use a tufting gun so you can make your very own rug. Bring your own design or choose from the ones they have for one-of-a-kind room decor.


5) Texture Painting Classes

Where: Brookline

Info: Add a bit of spunk to your paintings with some 3D texture at the Craft Zone. Bring the waves of your ocean paintings to life and experiment with thick painting materials for one-of-a-kind effects! There are also other mediums and materials to have fun with at this location.


6) Wheel Throwing Classes

Where: Brookline

Info: Learn to throw a slab of clay on a potting wheel and mold your own pot, cup, or bowl. These 2-hour workshops will teach you the skills to pinch, coil, and create at the beloved Brookline Clayroom!


7) Floral Art and Design Workshops

Where: Watertown

Info: Join seasoned instructors at Cass School of Floral Design as you make your own bouquet of colorful flowers. These workshops will teach you how to design floral arrangements to add a little love in your home or for friends and partners!


8) Knitting Essential Workshops

Where: Charlestown, Hingham, and Newton

Info: Third Piece is a local business with a variety of locations that host workshops to equip you with everything you need to know for knitting your own garments and blankets!


9) Painting Lessons

Where: Newton

Info: Paint with instructors from The Paint Bar, a woman-owned business, through a step-by-step tutorial on painting different scenes from landscapes to gnomes and everything in between!


10) Sewing and Quilting Lessons

Where: Dorchester

Info: Learn how to master the sewing machine so you can make your own clothes, tailor your own pants, recycle your own materials, and create quilts at woman-owned Stitch House.


11) Punch Needle Workshops

Where: Somerville

Info: There are more things to do with yarn than knit and crochet. Stab some fabric to create beautiful designs and adventure with other fiber art workshops at this woman-owned small business, Homebody General.


12) Bonsai, Mosaics, Fiber Arts, & More

Where: Cambridge

Info: Your one-stop shop for all things crafts and hobbies, Studio by Garden hosts workshops on bonsai twisting, moss, finger knitting, and origami!


13) More Painting Lessons

Where: Back Bay

Info: If you want a step-by-step lesson to create colorful paintings, stop by this woman-owned business. What’s even more exciting are the drop-in paint lounge hours where you can paint pre-stenciled canvases or anything from your imagination for adults and kiddos alike!
