Need a fun way burn off a few calories from that Thanksgiving feast? Maybe a take a welcome break from Christmas shopping? Wanna just get in the ‘swing’ (ha!) of the holiday season! The 19-piece Compaq Big Band is THRILLED to be back with one of our FAVORITE longtime clients/events when we return to the BC Full Swing dance club’s 2025 Winter Social! This is a *FREE PUBLIC* swing dance on Saturday December 6th on the Boston College campus in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts!
There’s a group-friendly introductory swing lesson at 5:00pm, followed by band sets 6:00pm-8:00pm. Singles, couples, groups, and meet-ups welcomed. There’s sure to be a great mix of dancers with all levels of swing experience – beginners will find lots of patient partners ;) All ages welcomed, too!
The venue is Lyons Hall Dining Commons (Lower Level aka ‘The Rat’) on the BC Campus. Search for “Lyons” on this map Boston College Chestnut Hill Campus Map. There’ll be a spacious dance floor and some GREAT dance routines from BC Full Swing on our break. Dress is whatever’s comfortable for dancin’.
Lyons Hall is a 13-minute/0.5 mile walk from the ‘T’ Green Line Boston College stop.
There is free on-street parking at legal spots on Linden Lane, and along the driveway that runs near Lyons Hall. In the very unlikely event you find no open parking spaces along Linden Lane, please proceed to “Commonwealth Ave Garage” ($14 weekend flat fee) on the map – it’s a 3-minute/0.1 mile walk to Lyons Hall.
Our sets will be a mixture of holiday tunes complemented by year-round fare – all 100% swing danceable. We’ll have fabulous Montreal & Boston jazz artist Juliana Bautista out front performing vocal treatments of seasonal classics as recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, and others, plus some very swingin’ instrumentals such as Count Basie’s “Good Swing Wenceslaus”.
Juliana Bautista will be channelin’ a lot of classic seasonal arrangements crafted for the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald , and much more. She’s a Montréal-born jazz vocalist, composer, and educator known for her warm tone, multilingual versatility, and dynamic stage presence. Juliana has performed at major venues and festivals across Québec and New England, including the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Boston’s Jordan Hall, and the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Massachusetts. Currently based between Montréal and Boston, she is completing her undergraduate studies in Jazz Voice Performance at the New England Conservatory, where she has worked closely with acclaimed artists including Dominique Eade, Jason Moran and Sara Serpa.
In addition to performing, Juliana is an active composer and educator. Her original music draws from the Great American Songbook, Latin jazz, and contemporary influences, and she teaches private voice and piano with a focus on creativity, confidence, and technical foundation.
