The smallest acts of kindness can make a difference. Change can start at a local level, and then spread throughout communities. That’s why we’ve rounded up 10 local organizations that you can join this year as a volunteer.


1) Pine Street Inn 

Where: Headquarters in South End

Info: Support Bostonians facing homelessness by giving your time to Pine Street Inn. There are various ways to help out, from distributing outreach bags to sponsoring a meal for shelter guests. 


2) The Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary 

Where: Headquarters in Mattapan 

Info: If you’re looking to spend more time outdoors, the Boston Nature Center is the perfect place to start. The Center offers several volunteer opportunities for Bostonians of all experience levels, especially if you’re interested in plant- or wildlife.


3) Boston Cares

Where: Headquarters in Bunker Hill

Info: Become a part of the largest volunteer agency of New England. Civic engagement at Boston Cares ranges from assisting youth, promoting cultural diversity, and tutoring immigrants in English. There are even virtual volunteer opportunities offered.


4) The MSPCA

5) Charles River Conservatory

Info: You can take care of Boston’s wild spaces with Charles River Conservatory. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty through bulb planting, mulching, weeding, and even picnic table painting.

7) The Greenway

8) Community Servings 

Where: Jamaica Plain

Info: Volunteer with community servings, an incredible organization devoted to providing food for those with chronic illnesses. Community Servings provides over 17,000 meals per week to individuals and families across the state who are dealing with nutrition insecurity. 


9) Cradles to Crayons

Info: Volunteer at Cradles to Crayons, an amazing organization that provides low-income children across the state with everyday essential items such as clothing and toiletries. 


10) Women's Lunch Place

Info: At the Women's Lunch Place, you can support a unique daytime shelter and help provide necessities for women across Boston.
