Youth pro Musica, the Newton-based youth choral program, presents its Spring Concert on Saturday, June 8 at 7 PM at Eliot Church, 474 Centre Street in Newton. Tickets available online now at youthpromusica.org/tickets. Tickets will also be available at the door.
Youth pro Musica's "This Shining Night" concert features all three of YpM's youth choral ensembles: the Training Chorus, the Repertory Chorus and the High School Ensemble. The program includes airs and songs by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Beam, Parker and Doloff. Featured in the concert are Fauré's "Messe basse", Barber's "Sure on this shining night", and Willcocks' "Five Shakespeare Pieces. The highlight of the evening will be Bob Chillcott's "A Little Jazz Mass", assisted by instrumentalists from the Berklee College of Music.
This year marks Youth pro Musica's 49th season. Robert Barney has been YpM's artistic director for nine seasons; Brian Hagar-McKee is the training chorus director; Yvonne Gobis is YpM's outstanding accompanist.
AUDITIONS for 2019-2020 season. Auditions for new singers for our 50th season will take place on the afternoons of Monday, June 10 and Tuesday June 11. Auditions are open to all rising students in grades 2-12 from Newton and surrounding communities. Auditions are informal, by appointment, and take place at our Newton rehearsal place.
