Join us for two-hour class about how to stay outside safely this late fall and winter with fellow hikers. Essential gear and safety topics will be discussed, and doing so will help you prepare to make equipment purchases gradually as the season evolves.

How do I keep my water from freezing? How do I stay dry? When do I use snowshoes vs microspikes/crampons? All of these questions and more will be used to help you learn techniques about how to manage your heat and stay dry with the right gear. Appropriate boots, socks, gaiters, and layers will will be pointed out during the heat management process, and then material covering traction will follow. If you're not sure if the gear you have is enough for winter hikes, bring it to class so more experienced hikers can help analyze its utility.

In addition to all of the above, you have the option of ordering microspikes here when you register for your class. Microspikes are important traction devices that go underneath your four-season or winter hiking boots. You do not need experience to use micrpspikes; they just help you with slipping. We find that most people don't go out late-fall or winter hiking because they don't know about microspikes. You may order them below and they will be brought to class for you to pick up. Please choose the correct size.

Benefits of taking the courses

1.Your chances of being accepted on a winter hiking trip will be dramatically increased since you will gain valuable knowledge from this class.

2. You will meet fellow hikers to set up winter trips based on your experience and needs.

3. You will learn more about how to be an adventure spark so you can get outside often during the late-fall/winter season.

4. You will able to address the doubts you've had about winter gear with the more experienced members of the community.
