Presented by The Brattle and Check the Technique
Director Charlie Ahearn in Person!
We’re thrilled to be partnering with Brian Coleman, author of two excellent volumes of hip-hop history (under the title Check The Technique), to present the legendary film WILD STYLE with its equally legendary director, Charlie Ahearn, in person. Charlie will also be bringing a few rare and new short films to screen afterwards.
WILD STYLE (1983) Dir. Charlie Ahearn [82 min; TBA]
Widely regarded as the first film to depict hip-hop culture, WILD STYLE features seminal figures from the early ‘80s scene, such as Fab 5 Freddy, Lee Quinones, Lady Pink, the Rock Steady Crew, The ColdCrush Brothers, Queen Lisa Lee of Zulu Nation, and Grandmaster Flash. Shot in an improvisational, verité style in the Bronx, the Lower East Side, and the MTA train yards, WILD STYLE is an amazing snapshot of the early days of hip-hop.
