A cherished annual tradition, ArtsArlington’s Fox Festival Parade has been reimagined as an expansive and welcoming, virtual family event this year that encourages creativity, appreciation for local wildlife, and safe social distancing.
In a summer-long art challenge on the theme “The Epic Adventures of Fox and Owl,” artist-designed DIY activities offer a fun opportunity for families to get creative together or for friends to collaborate on a project. It’s also designed as an imaginative prompt for artists and other folks to freely interpret.
Visit ArtsArlington.org/foxandowl to download free paper puppet kits drawn by artist Kari Percival. You’ll also find sample videos, shorts about local wildlife, and how-to resources. Families can make window art, a series of photos, or a short movie starring Fox and Owl and share it with friends, neighbors, and the world by submitting it for sharing in Fox & Owl Tiny Film & Photo Festival on a date TBD in September.
You can make something complicated and epic, or simple and surprising. Tell a story, send a message, create visual poetry, tell a joke!
Send Submissions by August 31 to: FoxandOwlArlington@gmail.com or use WeTransfer to send a link (free service with no registration required).
Three films will be selected by a jury from the Fox & Owl Festival for inclusion in The Arlington International Film Festival's Youth Film Festival in November. The Fox and Owl event and annual Fox Festival and Parade are presented by the Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture, and funded in part by a generous contribution from Friends of the Fox Branch Library. Other partner organizations this year include: Arlington Public Libraries, Arlington Community Media, Inc., Arlington Center for the Arts, The Ottoson Middle School Green Team, 13FOREST Gallery, The Object of Stories, Maxima Gift Shop, and other Capitol Square businesses.
