In 2018, Commonwheels Bicycle Collective put on a full day group ride, festival, competition and party named CW24.
This year, we're back and better than ever with The Allston Rat Race (the race that's not a race) on July 27th from 10am-8pm! This is the new and improved version of last year's event and will include a 10-hour ride (part festival, part competition) plus an after party! The Allston Rat Race is Commonwheels' annual fundraiser! Help us by bringing in donations for CW while riding around the Allston-Brighton neighborhood, trying all our wacky Bonus Stops and racking up points for the scoreboard!
Registration is $30 per person and includes lunch and dinner plus access to the after party at Zone 3 in Allston. Each participant must also raise $30 in donations for Commonwheels. You may either pay the $30 yourself with your registration for a total of $60 at signup, or you may seek donations from friends and family using our peer-to-peer fundraising site on Donate.ly. We'll send more information on fundraising after we receive your registration.
How does the event work?
Ride a 3-mile lap around Allston-Brighton as many times as you can in 10 hours, stopping at designated checkpoints along the way to collect points. During the race (that's not a race) there will be frequent Bonus Stops: opportunities for you to earn bonus points by participating in fun activities across the neighborhood. These Bonus Stops will shake things up a bit, leading you off of the designated route and over to our incredible community partners for things like: candlepin bowling, kayaking, salsa lessons, playing bocce, yoga etc.* You'll want to visit our start/finish line at Zone 3 in Allston where we'll have music, food and opportunities to relax in between all the fun. Finally, get in a final lap because at 8pm the points will be tallied, the winners announced, and the after party will be bumping! They'll be live music and alcohol for purchase from our generous sponsors!
This ride is for everyone: if you are competitive - ride like the wind and get those points! If you're here for a fun day of riding and relaxing in the sun - ride around at your own pace and take a load off in between laps and Bonus Stops! No matter what your style is, you're sure to make new friends, try new activities, get acquainted with the Allston-Brighton neighborhood, and most importantly, support Commonwheels so that we can continue running your favorite programs and add in some new stuff in 2019-2020!
