With the holidays just around the corner, what better time to sample and learn about the history of candy in the United States.


Our survey of this sugary landscape will include vintage chocolates, hard candies, chews, bubble gums, unique novelty candies, and more. Even if you are a sweets aficionado, you are sure to learn something new.


Rhea Becker, a Jamaica Plain resident and member of the Tuesday Club of the Loring Greenough House, is a longtime journalist who grew up sampling the wares in her father’s candy store.
