Dr. Ashok Roy, Former Director of Collections, National Gallery, London.
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s collection includes two works on panel by Raphael, considered by many to be the greatest of all Italian Renaissance painters. Drawing on comparative examples from collections around the world and recent research, this lecture explores the evolution of Raphael’s painting methods and materials from his meticulous preparatory drawings and underdrawings, to his uniquely beautiful, striking use of color.

Held each year in honor of George L. Stout, the Museum’s Director from 1955 to 1970 and a founder of modern art conservation, the Stout Memorial Lecture celebrates excellence in preservation and understanding of cultural heritage. Lectures include Museum admission and require a tickets; tickets can be reserved online, in person at the door, or by phone: 617-278-5156. Museum admission: adults $15; seniors $12; students $5; free for members.
