Reggie Wilson, who completed a weeklong residency in our theater in July 2014, returns with his Brooklyn-based Fist and Heel Performance Group. An evening-length exploration of “how we lead and why we follow,” Moses(es) draws from influences including Zora Neale Hurston’s Moses, Man of the Mountain; Wilson’s studies of Monotheism, African cultures, and fractal geometry; and trips to Israel, Egypt, Turkey, and Mali.

“The dance vocabulary is rich,” wrote the New York Times after the work’s premiere, with “wide squats, jumps that spin and kick, Egyptian poses, arms rippling like bulrushes, heavy steps…a thrilling work.” The movement is accompanied by a soundtrack including blues, spirituals, klezmer, calypso, and house music.
