Night’s Blackbird has been performing in the Boston area since 2016. The group plays original music for voice, lute, viol da gamba and soprano saxophone. They draw on material from Stare Into the Sound, an album of original lute songs by members Jamie Dunphy and Seth Peterson. Metronome Magazine called the recording one of the best of 2016, dubbing the music “artfully ingenious.”
Night’s Blackbird also features two early music experts (Teri Kowiak and Carol Lewis) and an inventive jazz saxophonist (Ian Carroll). Along with Dunphy and Peterson, they share a restless creative spirit, and a willingness to draw from a wide range of styles.
