BREAKING NEWS: MFA FIRES LONG TIME BELOVED EMPLOYEE FOR BEING A RESPONSIBLE FATHER. WE NEED YOU ALL OUT THERE TO GET HIS JOB BACK!
Director of Protective Services, Nicki Luongo, put in place a hiring freeze over a year ago to intentionally understaff the gallery guards. Why? They are saving money and they are weakening the Union. Because of their new desire to have less guards in the galleries, we have no choice but to fall into their trap of drastic schedule changes, which will force some us to QUIT our jobs. It is impacting our lives negatively by forcing us to work completely unflexible schedules after we have already built our lives around the schedules we have held for 10, 20, 30+ years.
The Museum thinks that they can get away with all of this by needing LESS of us. In turn, they are neglecting the safety of the collection, as we have seen the frequency of artwork damage increase each week, directly correlated to the reduction of guards in galleries. They are also neglecting the Visitor Experience, something that the guards pride themselves on and have been commended for.
HELP US FIGHT BACK!
