Make Shift Boston Presents: Social Justice Filmmaking

Introducing the School of Arts and Social Justice by Make Shift Boston! Join us on Zoom each Thursday at 7pm for an array of unique online classes! Maybe you want to learn about the history of mutual aid and how to build offline mutual aid networks. Maybe you want to learn about what socially distant direct action can look like. Maybe you want to learn to knit or write a song/poem.

In this class: Students will learn the essentials of pre-production and production to make a social justice video using your cell phone; including skill building games, story structures for online social justice videos, framing techniques, and audio recording tips.

About the Instructor: Elliot Higger is a filmmaker, photographer, community workshop facilitator, and a former member of Make Shift Boston. She is a 2011 graduate with a B.A. degree in filmmaking, concentration in cinematography, and minor in photography. In 2011, Elliot started Sunny Mind Productions to tangibly address social issues stemming from misrepresentation. Elliot’s films have shown at Fenway Park, The TD Bank North Garden, National Park visitor centers, building re-designs, community events, and social actions. Clients are most often community organizers and community organizations. Elliot has taught video production or photography in youth development, as a park ranger, and in adult continuing education.
