Matthew Shifrin, a LEGO aficionado who is also blind, explains how he and a sighted friend, Lilya Finkel developed instructions to make LEGO fully accessible to blind builders. "LEGO is an excellent brain strain. It's a great way to improve spatial awareness and spatial reasoning--areas where blind people sometimes have trouble" explains Matthew, "LEGO allows me to see things that are impossible to explore by touch, such as the arches of a Middle Eastern palace or the towers of the Tower Bridge."

Join Matthew and IHCD for lunch and a brief introduction to his design of accessible instructions, an interactive demonstration, and a discussion on how else this kind of instruction design can be applied.

Before you come, please RSVP to Maggie Austen at [email protected] or 617-695-1225 ext. 235.

Also check out Matthew's web site at LegoForTheBlind.com and his Brain Craft debut at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVy5E2DZkKM
