PILL’s wholly unique brand of spoken word infused, frenetic (kinetic?) noise rock is just as much free jazz as it is punk. Leaving room open for bursts of experimental, improv sax and rapidly fluctuating tempo shifts leaves the mind in a state of confusion and bewilderment – all you know is you want more. The Brooklyn four-piece's first proper full length 'Convenience' took the no-wave style, 70’s tinged punk of their first release and cranked it to new heights. Throw in ample lyrical commentary on politics, sex, gender, love, and you get a lit Molotov cocktail you’re actually excited to drink. Joining them is TRIM – the audible and visual kaleidoscope of Victoria Shen and drummer Dana Cataldo whose one-two punch, sensory assault emits a Dali-esque sonic slurry on all who attend. Also on this night’s NOCHELLA lineup is the tempting and timeless trio New Pope whose members pack together a solid resume with stints in Starring, Oneida, and People of the North. Come witness this musical menagerie. -Mike Achille
