Kentucky Derby, Cinco de Mayo Weekend at City Tap House

When the stars align and the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo fall on the same weekend, here at City Tap House we start preparing our livers and outfits accordingly.

KENTUCKY DERBY – May 4 at 11am
The “greatest two minutes in sports” is upstaged by a few things every year: the hats, the wardrobes, and the cocktails. In honor of this year’s race, City Tap House will be transforming its firepit-lined patio into a rosé garden for dapper gentlemen and belles to don their Derby finest. From seersucker suits to feathered toppers, the moments will be captured at a rose-decorated photo booth. With live music by Acoustic Feel from 1-5pm and DJ Sprino at 9pm, southern charm will be had as one sips Angry Orchard Rosé Cider on draft or the specialty cocktails of the day: Rosé Twist (citrus vodka, Cointreau, cranberry & lime juices, simple syrup and Angry Orchard Rosé Cider - $10) and the Angry Roséita (Angry Orchard Rosé Cider, mezcal, pineapple & lime juices and agave nectar - $10). For refined bites, there is Southern Pimento Cheese with crostinis ($12), Cucumber Cream Cheese Tea Sandwiches ($12) and Kentucky Derby Pie with chocolate, caramel and pecans ($10). Angry Orchard also will supply hats and swag giveaways.

CINCO DE MAYO – May 5 at 11am
After you wake up in your Derby hat, it’s time to fiesta. City Tap is taking a trip south-of-the-border in a tequila-fueled celebration of Mexico. Don your best sombrero for the photo booth while swizzling down Tecate by the 16oz can ($6) and bucket ($30 for five cans, festively served in an inflatable sombrero) before departing with some swag. DJ T-Rex will be in the building from 11am-4pm and the kitchen will dish out specials like Dip Trio (guacamole, corn salsa & queso with chips - $10) and Mahi Mahi Tacos with blackened fish, teriyaki sauce and pineapple-corn salsa ($18).
