PREREQUISITE: Please have completed either:
- One or more semesters with a high school or college improv team, or
- A beginner’s improv course at any theater (scout’s honor on this one)
In Improv 201, students will build on the fundamental skills they learned in Improv 101. Over the course of eight weeks, we’ll explore:
– How to add additional depth and realism to scenes by committing to prop and environment work
– How to create more vibrant, engaging characters by exploring motivation
– How to present a more compelling scene to the audience by thinking about stage presence, blocking, and projection
– How to perform dramatic (in addition to comedic) scenes
– How to play additional short-form improv games and long-form formats
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
– Improvise scenes and long-form sets that take character development into account
– Run scenes together in montages lasting 15-20 minutes
– Run a short performance with minimal participation from a director
