With a new year it makes sense to begin it with new music, that being music that is not pre-written and is created at the moment . Here are two groups that are especially creative exploring a wide realm of spontaneous sounds.


Tyto Alba is a project that pursues free microtonal improvisation on acoustic instruments. The group originated as a duo with Thadd Comstock, microtonal guitar, and Matt Samolis, micotonal flute, but expanded to include Dei Xhrist, voice, and Ryan McGuire, bass. https://mattsamolis.org/‎

Tracer is a project of composer/improvisor/woodwindist Dan O'Brien and also features Drew Wesely on guitar and Steven Long on piano & harmonium with potential guests.
