Music for Two Keyboards by Sons of Bach:
featuring fortepianist Sylvia Berry and harpsichordist Leon Schelhase
Many J.S. Bach's sons followed in his footsteps and became keyboard virtuosos in their own right. Their music different from their father's in many ways, but keyboard mastery was always part of the family business.
This program features works by two of his eldest sons - Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel - as well as his youngest, Johann Christian. These pieces are often played on matching instruments, but Berry and Schelhase will present them on fortepiano and harpsichord, which is surely how some would have played them since both instruments were in vogue at the time.
