A reception in celebration of the Fort Point Arts Community show Emergence
Join the Fort Point Arts Community and Boston Properties in celebration of the exhibition Emergence, showing April 7 - June 28, 2019.Emergence In systems theory emergence is the process whereby entities, patterns and regularities arise through interactions amongst smaller or less complex structures to create something more that the sum of the parts in isolation. Emergence is therefore a process that creates a new modality that cannot be predicted, and is distinct from the system through which it emerges. The artists in this exhibition grapple in various ways with the concept of the unforeseen or uncanny occurrence by combining diverse materials, sources and algorithms to generate images, objects and videos where the whole is greater than the contributing elements.FEATURED ARTISTS:Michael Benari’s interest in abstraction and the quotidian is manifested in this work by culling imagery from the urban landscape and layering it in ways that create complex and poetic systems.Jodi Colella works with found objects to create sculptural forms and installations that examine the manner in which the psychological is made physical through repurposing everyday and invisible material into complex woven objects.Amy Giese’s practice involves the creation of camera-less photographs that address the invisible networks that intertwine us and impact our lives as an attempt to fix and examine something that is fleeting.Mark J. Stock is an artist, scientist and programmer whose video work explores the tension between the natural world and its simulated counterpart by examining the liminal spaces between structure and fluidity, organic and inorganic, and the analog and digital.CURATOR:Brian Bishop is an artist who lives and works in Boston. In addition to his curatorial work, he has taught on both the undergraduate and graduate level for over twenty years.image credit: Michael Benari, Amsterdam Series #4, Edition 1/5, Ink on Paper, 2018
