Using the tools and vocabulary of a 21st century world steeped in information and technology, Svoronos examines the primal subjects of our bodies, our selves and our culture. Stitching together elements of humor and horror, data and drama, insights and instincts, Proof of Life reflects our complex contemporary relationship to ourselves.
Deriving inspiration from his own diagnosis of brain cancer, the body—with its inherent uniqueness and frailties—is a point of departure for much of Svoronos’ work. His wearable sculptures monitor and analyze the artist’s brainwaves to produce images, music and animations linked to his current state of mind. Other interactive work engages with the viewer’s pulse, exposing its pace and rhythm through the strident striking of a large chime. Embracing the very essence of our bodies and our selves, Svoronos collects, preserves and displays samples of DNA from multiple Boston- based artists. The resulting sculpture represents a genealogical ark celebrating our creative culture into the future.
