Do I need to register my copyright to protect it? Do I own my copyright, or does it belong to my client? What is fair use? If you’ve had any of these questions, you’re not alone! Copyright law is critically important to working artists across all media, but it can be difficult to grasp. Seemingly simple issues, such as copyright ownership, can easily become complex. Fortunately, a working knowledge of the basics of copyright law can help you more vigilantly protect your work and stay out of trouble.
In this interactive workshop, we’ll learn copyright basics, such as:
- What copyright protects and when to register
- When a work is a “work-for-hire”
- When fair use applies
- What constitutes infringement
We’ll also briefly cover trademarks, the right of publicity, and where to find legal resources. This program will be a great resource for copyright novices and veterans alike. Participation is encouraged – if you’ve had experience working with copyright issues, join the conversation!
