Join us for a pop-up dinner event at the CultureHouse in Kendall Square. Kebrewosen Densamo (Kiki) will be curating our conversation about the reality of an immigrant experience, through her documentary, Borrowing Fire. Kiki emigrated from Ethiopia in 2003, lives in Cambridge, MA. Arriving in the United States in 2003 as a young girl, Kiki has a special understanding of the challenges for youth in migration.

The film “Borrowing Fire” will be shown at the event. The film is based on the life of Yonas, and Ethiopian immigrant. “Borrowing Fire” reveals the analogy of a relationship with God and immigration. “[The fire] symbolizes what Yonas sees as his purpose as an immigrant—to help people struggling with depression, homelessness and addiction. Contrary to stereotypes about immigrants and rural Americans, Yonas finds that his immigrant heritage, accent, and personality opens doors.” (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Collective Film).

Additionally enjoy authentic Kenyan cuisine prepared by Tony, a Kenyan immigrant.

Tony will be cooking the following Kenyan delicacies:
--Supu Suupu: Bean, lentil, and vegetable medley (Vegan Soup)
--Tumbukiza: Spices and tidbits of goat beef and vegetables, braised in chicken broth
--Kienyeji Karanga: Braised fowl wok fried with spices, shallots, chilis and garlic
--Mbuzi Mafé: Smothered goat in sweet and spicy peanut coconut curry
--Sambuu Za Mtaanii: Uniquely Kenyan, perfectly seasoned spicy beef samosas
--Maggie’s Famous Pilau: Spiced Steam he baked basmati rice mixed with diced beef
--Ndengu Kuruka: Mong bean and vegetable stew; The ultimate supreme vegan dish
--Chapoz: Kenyan Chapati style then flaky bread
--Sukuma Wiki Remix: Slow cooked colored greens cabbage spinach onion garlic medley
